Our Story
Western Medical Training Center was founded on a simple belief: that access to a healthcare career should not depend on how much money you have or where you started. We built WMTC to change that — and then we built an entire ecosystem around it. We equip individuals and businesses with solutions to thrive.
Mission
We equip individuals and businesses with solutions to thrive through affordable education, access to resources, employment, and business consulting services.
We do this through three connected organizations: Equip Resource Solutions removes barriers through supportive services, WMTC builds skills, and Equip Human Solutions opens career doors. Together, they form a complete pathway from first opportunity to lasting success.
Vision
To create a world where everyone has the opportunity to achieve economic security and individual well-being, resulting in strong communities.
Strong individuals. Strong communities. Strong futures.
One Mission. Three Organizations.
Each organization plays a distinct role in a connected journey — from removing barriers through supportive services, to building career skills, to placing graduates in lasting employment.
501(c)3 Nonprofit
A 501(c)3 nonprofit providing supportive services and coordination of care that remove the barriers standing between individuals and opportunity — so people can pursue education, employment, and economic well-being.

What Drives Us
Healthcare careers should be within reach for everyone — regardless of income, background, or circumstance. All programs under $2,500.
NHA-aligned certifications, AHA-approved CPR, and state-approved programs. We hold ourselves to the highest standards so our graduates do too.
We are rooted in San Diego and committed to the communities we serve — in collaborative partnership with SDHC, CVS Health, San Ysidro Health, YMCA of San Diego County, San Diego American Indian Health Center, Bay Area Occupational Medicine Group, and more.
Through ERS's supportive services and barrier removal, WMTC's education, and EHS's career placement — we walk with people from first opportunity to lasting success.
We equip people with the education, resources, and employment connections they need — so they can build economic security for themselves and their families.
Our measure of success is yours. Externship placement, job connections, and career advancement support are built into every program.
Recognition
Still in our early chapter as the Equip Ecosystem — and already being recognized for the work. These nominations reflect what our students, partners, and community already know.
San Diego Business Community
Nominated for the Ruby Award — one of San Diego's most recognized honors for businesses making a meaningful impact in the community. A testament to WMTC's role in building economic mobility and workforce opportunity across the region.
Individual Leadership Recognition
Our founder was nominated for the 2025 Presby's Leadership Impact Award — recognizing individuals whose leadership has created lasting, positive change in the lives of others. A reflection of the mission that drives everything we build.
Built Together
WMTC's impact is amplified through a network of collaborative partnerships — each one playing a distinct and vital role. Some fund student training, some remove barriers to access, some provide clinical sites, and some connect graduates to careers. Together, we build pathways that no single organization could create alone.
In collaboration with WMTC, Bay Area Occupational Medicine Group serves as our dedicated Bay Area clinical learning location. Bay Area students complete their didactic coursework online alongside WMTC's San Diego cohorts — sharing the same curriculum, instructors, and community. Their hands-on clinical experience and externship hours are then coordinated directly through Bay Area Occupational Medicine Group, ensuring local, high-quality patient care exposure close to home.
SDHC may have funding resources available for eligible housing commission clients pursuing workforce training. Interested students are encouraged to contact SDHC directly to learn about current programs and determine whether they qualify.

Many of our students are hired directly from their externship site.
Your externship isn't just a graduation requirement — it's your first real job interview. WMTC places you at a site that fits your passion, so you show up as your best self from day one.

A Network Built Around Your Passion
We don't assign externship sites — we match you to one. Every student works one-on-one with an externship coordinator to find a placement that fits their program, schedule, location, and the specialty they're most excited about. Whether you're drawn to pediatrics, cardiology, pharmacy, or community health, we connect you with a real team doing real work in that space.
Specialties Across Our Network
The externship-to-hire path is real. Many WMTC graduates receive job offers directly from their externship site — sometimes before they've even completed their final hours. When you're placed somewhere that matches your goals, you don't just complete hours. You build relationships, prove your skills, and position yourself as the obvious hire.
The featured partners above are just a sample of our broader network spanning San Diego County and the Bay Area — including hospitals, community health centers, specialty clinics, urgent care centers, and retail and health-system pharmacies.
