Western Medical Training Center (WMTC), believes in the importance of hands-on education and experience. This is why some of our programs include clinical and externship opportunities in the curriculum. We take pride in ensuring that all our students feel prepared and confident in their respective fields before starting their careers. To provide this, we work diligently to ensure that our instructors and student-hosting partners are elite. We guarantee that when students begin their clinical rotation or externship, they will be supported and will not need to worry about the small things. We ensure these facilities can accommodate all students and provide top-notch learning experiences.
Before a student’s clinical rotation or externship, they have completed the approved WMTC curriculum, which has prepared them for these live patient interactions. Students will have already gained exposure to what will be expected of them in their careers and can utilize these hands-on experiences as the foundational moments of their education. Not only are they beginning their career, but these clinical rotations and externships allow our students to get mentorship and training from industry professionals.
Here at Western Medical Training Center, we believe in building up a whole person. The skills and experiences gained in clinical rotations and externships are invaluable because they are sometimes students’ first experiences as working professionals. These experiences also allow our students to build networks as they connect with more industry professionals.
The site of your clinical rotation or externship will vary depending on your program, but these sites include hospitals, pharmacies, assisted living facilities, clinics, doctor’s offices, and so on.
Our Certified Nursing Assistant program is 174 hours, including theory, lab, and clinical. Clinicals are 104 hours, and National Career Center establishes the clinical sites. Once a student completes their clinical rotation, they will be eligible to sit for the California State Exam for up to 1 year.
Our Certified Medical Assistant program is approximately 4 months excluding your externship. Once you have completed all components of theory and lab, you are then eligible to begin your 120 hour unpaid externship. The externship is of your own design which means you have the flexibility to chose your externship site and what experience will be the best fit for you whether that is part-time, full-time, or something else. Your externship will give you the experience and a space to put all your knowledge to practice. Once you have completed your externship, you are able to take the NCCT national exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant.
Our Certified Pharmacy Technician program requires 120 unpaid externship hours if you decide not to take the PTCB or the ExCPT. These hours are not accounted for in the total program run-time simply because there are numerous options for completing the program and obtaining a license. If one decides to complete an externship, they may do so at one of our established partners or at a site of their choosing, pending approval from National Career Center. Once a student completes all their NCC curriculum, both theory and lab, they will have up to 1 year to complete their externship.
Your journey to success in the healthcare industry begins here at Western Medical Training Center.
